Labels Per Roll Calculator
Estimate how many self-adhesive labels fit on a roll. Enter the roll outer diameter, core size, material thickness, and your label height and gap to get the wound length and an approximate label count per roll.
Result
Estimate based on wound roll length. Real counts vary with material caliper (liner + facestock + adhesive), winding tension, and start/end waste. Core sizes are typically 76 mm (3″) or 40 mm (1.5″).
How labels-per-roll is estimated
The number of labels depends on how much material is wound onto the roll. The wound length of the web is found from the roll and core diameters and the material thickness:
Web length = π × (OD² − core²) ÷ (4 × thickness)
Labels per roll = web length ÷ (label height + gap)
"Label height" is the dimension along the direction of the web (the way the roll unwinds), and the gap is the space between consecutive labels. The material thickness is the full caliper: liner plus facestock plus adhesive. To choose the facestock itself, see BOPP film and paper vs BOPP labels.
Common questions
What core size should I use?
The two common cores are 76 mm (3 inch) and 40 mm (1.5 inch). Automatic label applicators usually require a 76 mm core; hand-applied and desktop rolls often use 40 mm. A larger core means fewer labels for the same outer diameter.
Why is my actual count different from the estimate?
The estimate uses the wound roll length. Real counts vary with the exact material caliper, winding tension, and the start/end waste on the roll. It's an accurate planning figure, not a guaranteed count.
How do I measure material thickness?
Use the total caliper of the finished label, liner plus facestock plus adhesive, typically around 0.15–0.25 mm for paper and film labels. If you're unsure, we can confirm the caliper for the exact material you're printing.
